Holding Space for Healing, One Story at a Time

China Borjas, MA, LPC - Owner, Therapist

I believe that healing begins in spaces where you no longer have to hold everything together on your own.

Like many of the people I work with, I understand what it means to move through the world carrying a lot, while still showing up, still achieving, still being “the strong one.” I’ve seen how easy it is for pain to go unseen when you’ve learned how to function through it. And I also know how powerful it can be to finally have a space where you don’t have to perform, explain, or minimize your experience.

Growing up in an underserved community, I was surrounded by stories of resilience, survival, and unspoken pain. Those early experiences shaped the way I understand trauma, not just as something that happens in isolated moments, but as something that can live in the body, in relationships, and across generations.

Today, I work with individuals navigating trauma in its many forms, including racial trauma, gender-based harm, LGBTQ+ identity-related stress, the emotional toll of chronic illness, and the unique pressures of being a healthcare frontline professional. My approach is trauma-informed and culturally responsive, grounded in modalities such as EMDR, somatic awareness, narrative therapy, art therapy, eco-based therapy, and mindfulness-based practices.

But more than any specific approach, I believe that therapy is about connection. It’s about creating a space where all parts of you are welcome; the parts that feel overwhelmed, the parts that feel disconnected, and even the parts that have helped you to survive. I want to recognize, however, that the tools that helped you to survive, more than likely, will not be the same tools that will help you to thrive. Together, we move at a pace that feels right for you, making sense of what you’ve been carrying and creating space for balance to occur.

I’m also deeply committed to expanding access to mental healthcare through supporting sliding-scale group therapy services and by providing supervision to the next generation of therapists, especially those from marginalized communities. The work we do in this space has ripple effects; I believe healing, at its core, is both personal as well as collective.

At the end of the day, my hope is that when you sit across from me (whether that’s in-person or virtually), you feel this: you are no longer alone.

  • My Experience

I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with close to 15 years now of clinical experience. My work has spanned private practice, school systems, inpatient settings, community programs, and frontline support services; offering a wide lens into the many ways trauma and resilience can show up within people’s lives.

I have supported the healing process for children who have survived trafficking, have had the honor of working as a Restorative Justice Coordinator for an entire school district in California that was chronically underserved, and have provided wrap-around support services and care within inpatient settings. Within my work for the State Surgeon’s Office of Colorado, I was recognized for systems work in suicide prevention and awareness, and was thereby honored in 2022 with the award The Order of Saint Maurice, for exemplary civilian service to service members. These experiences have deeply shaped my understanding of how love and care can be expressed through systems, and how powerful collective healing can truly be.

In my current practice, I welcome individuals from all walks of life navigating the impacts of toxic stress and trauma. I aim to provide an affirming space to reconnect with one’s voice, needs, and sense of self in community.

My approach is trauma-informed and rooted in evidence-based practices. I’m committed to meeting people where they are, with care, cultural humility, and the belief that healing begins when we feel safe, seen, valued, and supported.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” — Maya Angelou
